The goal of the Event Frame Initiative is to build support for data types that are defined by a start time and an end time and may contain supporting data. We have extensive experience with Event Frame data types and their associated analysis techniques from our many years of providing batch applications. From this experience, we have determined a need to broaden the applicability of these analysis techniques and generalize them into generic correlation analysis techniques. By making these techniques pervasive throughout our platform and enhancing our current capabilities we can further expand the use of the PI System into new industries and new applications. This initiative marks the next generation of our batch products, but in order to accomplish our first goal of broader applicability we are consciously changing the name of this feature set. This talk will focus on Event Frame use cases that we plan on using to guide the initiative. We will start with a short discussion of what an Event Frame is followed by the internal and external drivers fueling this initiative. After a quick discussion on batch feature backward compatibility, we will present and focus the remainder of the talk on business use cases.
